When by Daniel Pink has been proving very insightful.
Three out of four of us be Larks and Third birds (not awake as early as Larks, but still high alert phase in the morning region) and the one be an Owl.
We have two major times to do our practice:
- mornings for Larks and Third birds to do Attention needing work like
- collecting notes on the fretboard for a new song,
- arranging them to efficiency,
- scrutinizing our phrasing etc.
- evenings for Larks and third birds to do the more creative stuff like maybe
- arranging which is a divergent skill with unusual solutions bringing joy
- or repeating already familiarized phrases to perfection?
the owls can do in the evening what the larks do in the morning and what the larks do in the evening, owls can do in the morning. meaning, owls can do the divergent, less inhibition needed stuff in the morning.
If you are a lark or an owl can in general be understood by seeing if on an off day you wake up early or not. IN his book, naturally Pink talks about a simple but accurate method and also leads those who need, to the more detailed versions.
I would have never thought about any of these things as important till Pink talks about it with a lot of data. Thank all the scientists who seem to be collecting data and analysing them on all kinds of things… I mean all kinds of things that we all do usually and now data is taken on them and seen.
Adan Grant recommends the book WHEN. somewhere i read adam grant saying that he wants only books have a lot of research and not just based on experience, because…
“we all experience gravity but that doesn’t make us all physicists.”
ANyway consider my hypotheses about the practising part and see if it works for you.
You need to read the book to really understand the extend of research and I started thinking of it deeper. Even if not for anything else, having two main regions in the day to put two kinds of actions to complete, makes like simpler!
