The late John Anthony told me: “no need to learn their game and try beat them. You have interest in Indian ragas and that is such a vast topic. Concentrate on it and be the best at it.”
I owe him for his kindness and support.
Over the years I have understood what it means to choose your MOAT and go for barriers of entry, Blue ocean strategy etc.
But, his statement has it all, and has been a very good real life example for me.
Later, one day, he mentioned in passing, about a percussion teacher who was teaching on skype while living in beach resorts.
That evening I put up a page for Skype classes and that is how i started my online teaching, which has now developed to all kinds of networks, business and life opportunities.
If we look at it, skype classes boosts the good about music teaching (find your best teacher regardless of geography etc), while removing problems like geography and time (to an extent), no need for brick and mortar, includes arbitrage in some cases. Closer look will show more points on reducing traditional, boosting the real positive, removing competition etc.
From life experience, our own successes, learning the meta, we can transfer the to benefit in other areas, without having to listen to gurus who base their advice on ignorance or anecdotal evidence.
When the musician John Anthony so strongly told me about the niche to choose and later gave the idea for an alternative teaching method, he gave me the chance to apply some of this meta to my own benefit.
Always all the best to his family.
